Lighthouse partner school sets new Arts Awards record

Dozens of local primary school students have achieved their Arts Award Discover qualification at Lighthouse.

More than 90 young people from Lighthouse partner school Longfleet Primary came to watch Coming To England in the Theatre and stayed on for an afternoon of workshops to achieve the award.

Arts Council England's entry level qualification for young people requires them to identify artforms, learn about an artist – in this case the cast of Coming to England – and their work, and to share what they have learned with their peers, recording it all in a logbook.

“The young people relished the chance to meet the cast and to ask lots of questions about their jobs and how they ended up doing them,” says Charles Shenton, Lighthouse Creative Engagement Producer.

“In total, we delivered 82 Arts Awards at once, which is a new record for Lighthouse.”

Creative, valuable and accessible, Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents.
