BSO CAKE CONCERT - Lighthouse Poole, Wednesday 25 June

The power of music to connect people is a remarkable thing and rarely does it sound sweeter than at one of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s Cake Concerts.

Specifically developed for people living with dementia and their companions, but open to all, Cake Concerts are relaxed chamber performances in informal and welcoming environments, combining classical repertoire in a social setting with tea, cake and conversation.

Performed by the BSO’s Teatime Trio – Eluned Pierce (harp), Owain Bailey (flute) and Kate Keats (cello) – the concert is at Lighthouse Poole, the Orchestra’s home base, on Wednesday 25 June at 11am. The programme ranges from popular classical pieces to light film music, arranged for harp, flute and cello by Jeff Moore, and singalongs such as Cheek to Cheek, Singin’ in the Rain and The Sound of Music.

Sue Sharpe, BSO Participate Senior Programme Manager explains: “Cake Concerts are dementia-friendly but not dementia exclusive. For those feeling isolated or lonely, the concerts a wonderful and welcoming environment in which to socialise with others as well as providing a daytime musical experience. People can come along, listen to the beautiful music and then share a couple of slices of cake, and a good chat too.”

Everyone is welcome, whether living in the community or care and residential homes.
