Bournemouth and Poole College confirm apprenticeship partnership with leading UK sailing yacht manufacturer

Bournemouth and Poole College has confirmed an exciting partnership with Oyster Yachts, a leading British manufacturer of the world’s finest blue water sailing yachts. This is part of the continuous strides made towards increasing the learning opportunities for student apprentices studying at the College. Bluewater sailing yachts are designed to navigate ocean crossings. The partnership agreement will combine Oyster Yachts and its recognised reputation for delivering apprenticeships with Bournemouth and Poole College’s commitment to developing local employability skills and providing a clear career path for the next generation. Ten apprentices have been enrolled in the first year of this partnership, and during the next four years they will undertake extensive training to complete a Marine Electrical Level 3, Marine Engineering Level 3 or a Boat Building Level 3 Apprenticeship. Sculpture by the Lakes bolsters gardening team with former Eden Project horticulturist and Kingston Maurward apprentice

Sculpture by the Lakes, Dorset’s internationally acclaimed sculpture park and accredited botanic garden, has welcomed two new gardeners to its team. Bob Burstow, formerly of the Eden Project and the National Botanic Garden of Wales, has joined as the park’s Senior Horticulturist and is supported by a new Under Gardener, Alex Peel, currently an apprentice at Kingston Maurward College. Bob, who was trained by the Professional Gardeners’ Guild and has experience at some of the UK’s leading garden attractions, will head up the Sculpture by the Lakes gardening team, working closely with Garden Director and co-founder Monique Gudgeon. Dorset employment lawyers warn of flexible working shake-up

Legal changes mean employees have the right to ask to work from home on day one of a new job, according to employment experts at a Dorset law firm. The shake-up of flexible working rules is among a raft of employment law modifications which have come into force this month. (April 2024) Ellis Jones Solicitors has urged employers to ensure procedures are in place to meet the new legislation. Previously, before April 6, workers must have been employed for at least 26 weeks before they could make a request for flexible working. This includes working part-time, term time, compressed hours and remotely. One such request could be made every 12 months. Now, under the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023, employees can request flexible working from their first day in a new job and they can make two requests in any 12 month period. Nearly a third of employees have little understanding of how to use AI and data and less than one in ten have received training on AI tools in the past 12 months HR leaders report that recruiting AI and data skills will be their topmost technical skills priorities in 2024, as the AI revolution sweeps the nation’s workplaces.
