Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts is to reopen its Cinema next month with a series of Oscar-laden new films, headed by triple winner Nomadland with Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress for its star, Frances McDormand.
Also showing are double Oscar winners Sound of Metal and Minari, the critically acclaimed domestic drama that saw Yuh-Jung Youn become the first South Korean to win an Oscar, scooping the Best Support Actress gong for her role as the loving but foul-mouthed grandmother.
Alongside the Cinema programme, there are more titles announced for the new Screen On Stage experience at Lighthouse, a date for internationally acclaimed circus theatre company Ockham’s Razor, a very special evening with Poole’s inspirational yachtswoman Pip Hare, and shows for stand-up comedy stars Ross Noble and Simon Amstell.

Frances McDormand is brilliant in this multi Oscar-winning drama written, edited, produced, and directed by Chloé Zhao. She plays a woman who leaves her hometown after her husband dies and the town's main employer closes down, to be ‘houseless’ and travel around the United States in search of work.

Musical fantasy adapted to the screen by James Lapine from his and Stephen Sondheim’s 1986 Broadway musical in which a baker and his wife venture into the forest to find the ingredients that will reverse the spell that makes them childless and restore the beauty of the witch who cast it. Meryl Streep, James Corden and Emily Blunt star.
Ockham’s Razor: This Time

A show about time, age and personal stories from the award-winning circus theatre company Ockham’s Razor, This Time features a series of aerial frames raised from floor to ceiling that the four performers lift, push and cradle each other through a world of windows, thresholds and ledges.
An Evening with Pip Hare

Poole yachtswoman Pip Hare is an inspiration to us all. Only the eighth female skipper to complete the Vendée Globe round-the-world solo yacht race, she accepted a personal invitation from CEO Elspeth McBain to speak at Lighthouse and will also share a short film about her experiences. BBC Radio Solent’s Steve Harris chairs the event.
Simon Amstell: Spirit Hole
