Local interior designers celebrate completion of new Westbourne spa and massage studio

A new spa and massage studio has opened in Westbourne, following five months of interior design work by Bournemouth-based company, KTM Design.

Urelax Massage & Spa offers professional massage treatments, with a unique Eastern approach to health and wellness. KTM Design was commissioned to create a distinctive, relaxing space that would inspire people to treat themselves after many months of lockdown.

Katie Thomas, founder of KTM Design commented: “We didn’t want the design to follow a traditional Thai massage studio, which typically features a dark, moody theme. People have been confined to their homes for so many months, so we felt it was important to bring the outdoors in with a welcoming, bright space.

“We switched things up by developing a light, bohemian-style setting with lots of natural materials. The ground floor has been filled with Thailand-inspired hanging baskets, wicker lampshades, and open panelling – creating a perfect environment for relaxing and enhancing wellbeing. It was a fantastic project to work on, and we’re looking forward to seeing Urelax thrive in the coming months.”

The opening of Urelax comes following government restrictions lifting for spas re-opening from 17th May. The spa and massage studio hopes its new offering will encourage more people to support the beauty industry, after the British Beauty Council reported more than 7,000 salons in the UK have gone out of business since last year because of COVID-19.[1]

Sirikarn Goodger, owner of Urelax added: “The beauty industry contributes £30 billion to the UK economy every year[2], so it’s essential for new businesses like ours to open and help our country back on its economic road to recovery. What’s more, health and wellness experiences are even more important than ever before as the pandemic has taken its toll on people’s mental health throughout the pandemic.[3]

“Urelax offers customers a personalised experience to suit their bespoke needs, with an array of treatments including Thai massages, jade hot and cold stone massages and couples’ massages. We’d like to thank KTM Design for their work, which matched our brief down to the last detail and the results mimic exactly what we wanted to achieve – a truly welcoming environment.”
