There's a mood of optimism in the air as we carefully follow the roadmap out of lockdown and thoughts again turn to coming together to be entertained and have fun.
Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts, is ready to play its part as it announces two brand-new comedy shows on sale this week:
• Jonathan Pie: Fake News (Corona Remix) Thursday 28 October 2021. 7.30pm. Concert Hall. He’s the exasperated news reporter whose videos have been seen by millions all over the world. Now, Jonathan Pie returns to the road to discuss how Corona has changed the world – and his career prospects – in the critically acclaimed sell out show updated and remixed for a post-Corona world.
• Jayde Adams: The Ballad of Kylie Jenner’s Old Face. Thursday 28 October 2021, 8pm, Sherling Studio. As seen hosting Channel 4’s Snackmasters and Crazy Delicious, in her brand-new show comedian Jayde Adams rifles through all the noise and self-promotion to figure out what’s actually going on.
Tickets go on pre-sale to Lighthouse Friends only from Wednesday 7 April and on general sale from Friday 9 April.
Subject to the latest safety guidelines, more shows will be announced in the coming weeks.
As well as the new live shows on sale Lighthouse has partnered with some very special digital performances to share with audiences.
• The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, until Sunday 11 April 2021. Mon-Sun, 7pm and Tue, Sat, Sun 2.30pm. Digital Streaming. Filmed at Southwark Playhouse in February this enchanting new British musical explores the extraordinary world of a sorcerer and his rebellious daughter, as she discovers the explosive possibilities of her newfound magical powers. Directed by Charlotte Westenra, the cast of ten includes Dawn Hope (Follies), David Thaxton (Olivier Award for Passion) and the professional debut of London School of Musical Theatre graduate Mary Moore in the title role.
• The Jazz Bounceback, Friday 23 & Saturday 24 April. Fri 8.15pm, Sat 7.45pm, 8.15pm. Digital Streaming. In partnership with SoundStorm, Sound Cellar and Jazz South, Lighthouse Studio Jazz brings three very special performances by some of the finest young jazz musicians in the world right into your home. On Friday, from New York, comes the extraordinary Chilean composer, singer, guitarist Camila Meza in concert and conversation; followed on Saturday by the contemporary nu-soul jazz sound of Bristol’s We Are Lief and, later the same evening, the amazing jazz-hip hop superstar fronts The Soweto Kinch 4 live in concert and afterwards in conversation. Saturday also includes free workshops for young people and discussion panels on how to release your own music and women in the music industry.
