Hall & Woodhouse’s annual charity donation exceeds three quarters of a million pounds

Hall & Woodhouse (H&W), the leading family brewer and pub company, donated and raised its largest-ever annual sum of over £800,000 for charity and local good causes in 2024. This contribution is equivalent to approximately 10 per cent of the business’ annual profit.

Donations were funded through direct giving including sponsorships and discounts from the business, alongside a series of local fundraising events in H&W’s managed pubs. Team members in each of H&W’s pubs nominate their own charity of the year and organise regular charity events. The brewer also runs and sponsors a series of events each year, with profits being donated to good causes.

Rich Curtis, Head of Charity at Hall & Woodhouse, said: “Enriching our community is central to our company values and purpose to make people’s day. I am so proud of what our teams have achieved, as everyone has worked hard to break our previous record and raise a phenomenal amount of money.

“We know firsthand the number of charities that have personally helped our team and are proud to give back to those closest to our colleagues’ hearts. We have big plans to extend our support to even more charities this year and are on track towards our goal to donate and raise £1 million per year by 2027.”

Hall & Woodhouse’s 2024 Community Chest fund awarded £60,000 to local causes in the areas that it operates across the south. Last year’s fund was the largest donation that H&W has made through its Community Chest initiative since it began in 2002. To date, the H&W Community Chest has donated over £800,000 to more than 900 charities.

In May 2024, H&W was again the headline sponsor of the family-friendly festival, Teddy Rocks. H&W contributed over £140,000 from its sponsorship and profit made at the bars run by its team members, who volunteered their time for free over the weekend. The festival donates all profits made to the children’s cancer charity, Teddy20, and other similar children’s cancer charities.

In July 2024, the brewer donated profits of over £17,000 from the bars it ran at TANKFEST. The annual festival is held by the Bovington-based Tank Museum whose mission is to tell the stories of tanks and those that have served in them.

The H&W Dorset Beer Festival, held at the Brewery in June 2024, donated one hundred per cent of its proceeds to The Huntington’s Disease Association, raising over £6,900. The money is being used to fund future research into the disease and provide families affected by Huntington’s with the support they need.

Every November, H&W hosts a Charity Day at each of its managed houses across the south with 50% of net sales generated on that day donated to charity. On Tuesday, 12th November 2024 over £60,000 was shared equally between each pub’s local chosen charity and YoungMinds, a mental health charity for children and young people.

The H&W Team is on a mission to beat its donation record in 2025 with even more activities planned, including sponsored challenges, community quizzes, and appearances at key events. Confirmed dates include Teddy Rocks 2025 over the first May Bank Holiday weekend, and its Dorset Beer Festival on 13th-14th June.
