Hall & Woodhouse serves up tidy streets for annual Founder’s Day

Team members from the independent family brewer, Hall & Woodhouse (H&W), came together to tackle local litter and clean the streets to celebrate the company’s annual Founder’s Day.

Across H&W's managed pubs, over 200 team members followed tradition to collect as much rubbish and litter as possible to help encourage cleaner communities. The annual event is held to celebrate H&W’s Founder’s Day, the anniversary of the business’s founding in 1777.

Anthony Woodhouse, Chairman of Hall & Woodhouse, said: “At Hall & Woodhouse, we treasure the relationship we have with local communities and love finding ways of giving back throughout the year. Founders Sweepers is a great day out that delivers our team a real sense of reward and pride. A feeling of community is a core element of the Hall & Woodhouse experience we aim to deliver across our estate of houses and honouring that on Founder’s Day is a privilege.

“We started the annual litter pick over 14 years ago and have since collected so much litter of all shapes and sizes; from high streets to residential areas, and from countryside to beaches. The team’s competitive nature to dispose of as much litter as possible is a great addition to the tradition.

Each Founder’s Day the Badger Brewery team release a special edition beer to celebrate. This year, to start the countdown to H&Ws 250th anniversary in 2027, the release of Jock’s Dedication Strong Ale celebrates a key figurehead in the business’ history, John “Jock” Woodhouse. The limited-edition beer is brewed to 6.2% to highlight the year Jock joined the H&W board (1962), with hops that spell out SAS – Simcoe, Amarillo and Sabro for tropical hop notes, as a nod to his distinguished army career.

Anthony added: “There are so many brilliant ways that we get involved with the community throughout the year, but Founders Day definitely brings the original message of Hall & Woodhouse to the present. A fresh pint of limited-edition Badger Beer tops off the day as we cheers to all members of the Hall & Woodhouse family who’ve contributed to what it is today.”
